If you love what you do.

Updated: Nov 12, 2020

That's how it goes right? "If you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life"? Sounds great, but in my experience, total bullshit. If you love what you do, you'll hold yourself to an incredibly high standard and take everything personally, because you care A LOT and you want to do the best you can, this is a blessing and a curse.

I've been feeling really out of touch with circus, partially because I've been injured for the last twelve months and partially because our industry doesn't currently exist. While talking to Sam about my frustrations at the start of the week, she pushed me to make something physical that was just for fun, no pressure, no goal to put it on stage, just getting back into making again. The quote in the banner image is taken from Austin Kleon's 'Keep Going - 10 Ways To Stay Creative In Good Times And Bad', I come back to it whenever I'm in a rut.

Here is a short piece I created in about two hours today, to 'Where's The Catch' by James Blake and Andre 3000, using some pre-existing material and some brand new material, just for fun.

[Video description: Jon dances in an apartment with plain walls and a wooden floor and a large window, he is wearing a light coloured loose shirt and dark pants and socks. He is bending his body and threading and weaving with his limbs, he dances on a set of rubber mats with a diamond patterned Persian rug on top.]
